The Asus Tinker Board might be yet another let down after all

Asus unveiling their own version of a single board computer got a lot of press coverage. A competitor to the Raspberry Pi backed by a big corporation? Sounds exciting right?

The benchmarks are not out yet because it simply is very difficult to get your hands on a board as of today; but Youtube user Arran Short was kind enough to test the board on KodiOS with a set of 3 videos:

  • 1080p / 30fps
  • 1080p / 60fps
  • 2160p (4k) / 30 fps

… And well the Tinker Board struggles with the 1080p 60fps and the 4k is completely unusable, achieving less than 15fps. This seems to confirm that despite the board impressive specs on paper, the drivers are not quite there yet.
